Seasons Greetings

Tis the time to look back on a year which has been, for me, one of significant changes; both family and work. As December 31st approaches I can sit back and say that it has been worth it and that I am very happy. Moving regions, making new friends, enjoying all that the #Wairarapa has to offer and rebuilding a business has been very fulfilling.

Adding the #drone to my real estate photography services has definitely opened a few avenues. There is nothing like seeing a familiar scene from a new angle to appreciate the difference it makes to marketing photography.

Renewing contacts with the likes of Sir Peter Bush was lovely as Brian and I captured his photograph using the #wetplate collodion process. He enjoyed the experience, and we enjoyed his company and stories! To top it off we saw an article about that day in The Photographers Mail magazine just out.

Houses have come in all shapes, sizes and conditions! From grand mansions to motel studio units. Owners have been pleasant (“cup of tea dear?”), tenants accommodating (on the whole) and the majority of agents have been professional and lovely to partner with. Brian and I have travelled to #PalmerstonNorth and Wanganui, across to #Riversdalebeach and gone as far south as #Wharekauhau. Roll on 2016!

Some memorable moments in #Carterton have included being part of the GoCarterton initiative to refurbish some tired shop fronts along our main street. Led by #architect Gregg Crimp and assisted by about 100 volunteers, we made an impact along High St!

Seeing the book I researched and wrote about the 65-year history of CB Norwood Distributors published and launched was a real buzz.  Keen to tell the tale of another organisation’s legacy! see Storyfarmers website

Coming up in 2016 I am taking the plunge and exhibiting some of my photographic work in various locations around Carterton. I have a personal project yet to fully develop and will definitely be at various Fairs and art-based events in the region, especially the hugely successful Wai-Art weekend culminating in Daffodil Day (September).

It’s been a busy year. I hope everyone has had a wonderful year and best wishes to you all for a prosperous, happy and safe 2016. Don’t lose your sense of wonder, enjoy the little things and always remember to smile!

Here ‘n there

This weather is driving me nuts – so i guess it will be doing so for other photographers around the country who want good clear weather for their client’s bookings. However I  know it wont last forever and soon enough we will be praying for rain and complaining about water tanks being low on water. Here are some shots of homes around the Wairarapa whose owners are looking to move on. Enjoy!

Art and more art

Brian and I are participating in the Big Wai Art Sale, Carterton in the #Wairarapa on Sept 11-12 with our #wetplate photographs. We will have our cart there for commissioned portraits between 10.30 and 2.30pm. Come along and see some great work by local artists and stop by for a chat! If you mention you saw this post, Brass & Glass photographic alchemy will give you 10% off your portrait sitting.

Greytown local Doug captured on glass using chemicals and methods from the 1850s to create a family heirloom that will never fade.

A commercial interest

Yes I know, it has been a while since I posted! I enjoy working on larger projects such as commercial buildings and recently I completed some assignments for a Manawatu agency who appreciate the benefit of high quality images. Here are a few examples of their recent listings.

A busy, busy week that was

HighdenLifestyle

It was an amazing week last week which saw me in the Manawatu region photographing a large homestead surrounded by acres of land, rose bushes and a zillion trees as well as a few smaller homes. Back home in the Wairarapa I visited two #lifestyle settings on a beautiful sunny day, the only time in my opinion to capture lifestyle properties! No drone used this time, just my ‘stick’ which elevates to 6metres.

NZ Art Show 2015

I am very pleased to say that I have been accepted as an exhibitor in the NZ Art Show 2015 in Wellington this June 19-21.  The show is an important national art event: It  makes it easy for all New Zealanders to own original New Zealand art by offering quality at affordable prices. If you are thinking of collecting some Kiwi art then head along!

Introducing…

… Brian Scadden is the man behind the #drone images we now offer to clients around the Wairarapa and Manawatu. Heck, we are happy to travel to where-ever we are needed! It is just amazing the difference in perspective from 20 feet up, let alone 200 feet. Weather is an important consideration for operation as is the site’s proximity to an airport. A recent job saw us given a height restriction as well as a strict time-frame. We got the shots; client very happy.

Video and stills are supplied depending on need and we are competitively priced. Give us a call! Opening special prices available until July 31st 2015.
